It’s pretty easy to get stoked filming in the Colorado mountains in autumn. Dennis and his wife, Vickie, filmed and took off on a motorcycle trip to New Mexico.
One of many you-got-to-see-it-to-believe-it Colorado sunsets. Sunrises are also cool, but start too early.
Faust Scene of Act 5, part 2 describing the Anchorites, a type of hermit living in mountain crevasses.
One of my favorite memories: filming at the base of the “Fourteeners” (14,000 feet tall) in Westcliffe, Colorado after the first snowfall.
This was the scene for Faust’s entry “aria.” We shot it at sunrise to capture the feeling of Easter morning, whose bells saved Faust from suicide.
I came to Colorado thinking I wanted to be a cowboy. Pretty quickly I decided I wanted to be an Indian.
Dennis Cordova and Nathan Halpin at a shoot at Adobeland. The movie wouldn’t have happened without Dennis. Nathan was a two time Colorado State wrestling champion and became a member of the Special Forces. He enjoyed hanging off rocks and anything dangerous during our shoots.
Ed Tezac gave us a helicopter lift into the Beaver Creek Wilderness Area, which is as rugged a country as any. We filmed a number of scenes here. Faust describing his newly discovered oneness with nature because of his love for Gretchen, this resonated for me.
